44th Wedding Anniversary

On August 14th Mary and me celebrated 44 years of marriage. We decided to drive to Frankfort and on the way up went through Blaine where we were married. We actually arrived there about the same time we were married. Here is a picture of us in front of the church.

We went through Frankfort then southwest on K-9 hwy to the old Wempe farm where we lived about 5 months when first married.

Current view:

We stopped by the home were we lived from 1980 to 1984.
Then:

Now:

We liked the looks of it better with the red shutters and shingles.
We went to the cemetery to visit the graves of our parents.

Then we went northeast of Frankfort to the farm we purchased in November 1965. We lived there until May 1968 when the Marysville Guard unit was activated for Vietnam.

It looks much nicer now than when we lived in it.
We then headed to Marysville to see the Veterans Memorial and it is quite impressive. Pictures do not do it justice.

My block:

Dad's block:

We ate lunch at Penny's Diner along 36 highway in Marysville. Mary had not seen the overpass over the railroad so we drove west of town to view that then headed south through Blue Rapids and Waterville to Manhattan. We went to the Manhattan Zoo then to the mall to kill some time. We ate dinner at Lemmy's Pizzeria and had a good pizza and ice cold beer. We went to Wamego and went by the our old home and took a picture of it. We lived there from 1984 to 1986. It did not have the garage when we lived in it.

We then went to the Columbian Theater in downtown Wamego.

We picked up our tickets I had preordered then walked main street. The presentation of HOO HAW V was very entertaining. It was a take off of the old Hee Haw TV show. They had an excellent cast and we really enjoyed the theater and the show. So we had a great tour and a fun day.
